Please support me as I run the 89km Comrades Ultra Marathon to help Vinnies prevent even more homelessness!

This year will be my 7th CEO Sleepout and on the 11th June I will be running the 89km Comrades ultra marathon from Pietermaritzburg to Durban in support of this great cause.

At Celsius our livelihood comes about by creating homes for people to either rent or buy and yet each year it seems so many more West Australians are finding it increasingly difficult to stay in a home or find a roof over their head. Whilst we all see those that are homeless at most traffic lights, my early morning training runs have opened my eyes to just how many every day West Aussies are currently sleeping in their car whilst trying to hold down a job.

I’m really pleased that Brenton Downing our Celsius Land MD, will be joining me for his 4th CEO sleepout this year and UDIA WA has once again entered a team of Property Professionals to show our united support of this great cause.

Vinnies has a number of programs to assist those that are homeless and those that are experiencing cost of living pressures.

  • Vinnies WA’s Specialist Community Services help people by providing housing and accommodation options, including short-term crisis accommodation, transitional housing, medium to longer-term community housing, accessible housing for people living with a chronic mental health diagnosis and specialist homelessness services.
  • Vinnies WA’s Emergency Assistance Program helps people to avoid homelessness by providing information, advocacy, food or food vouchers, clothing, furniture, budget support, assistance with utility bills or educational costs.
  • Nationally Vinnies advocates for improved housing accessibility. Housing is vital to wellbeing and is associated with better outcomes in health, education and employment and economic and social participation. It helps reduce poverty and enhances equality of opportunity, social inclusion and mobility.
  • For the people we assist, the lack of pathways out of temporary housing stops them from getting on with their lives, looking for a job, studying and/or taking care of themselves or other family members.
  • Vinnies is actively advocating for policies that improve housing affordability, security, safety and energy efficiency.

I hope that you will be sufficiently inspired to make a donation to such a worthwhile cause with some examples listed below as to how much needed funds help:

  • $55 can help feed a family for a day
  • $75 can provide a nutritious meals and warm clothing
  • $120 can provide emergency accommodation so a person is not left vulnerable on the streets
  • $300 can help to relocate a person sleeping rough to accommodation services
  • $500 can help provide emergency accommodation for a family in crisis
  • $850 can help with rent and accommodation so people have a safe place of their own

You can make a donation to my fundraising initiative here https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/fundraisers/richard-pappas/wa

Let’s all work together to raise as much funds as possible to support the great initiatives of Vinnies whilst ensuring we also raise awareness of our homeless and in turn provide them the support and care they deserve on our everyday travels.

All the very best,

Richard
